Breastfeeding myths can be misleading, so let's debunk a few:
Myth: Formula is as good as breast milk.
Fact: While formula can provide necessary nutrients, breast milk is uniquely tailored to a baby's needs. It contains antibodies, enzymes, and hormones that support a baby's immune system and overall development.
Myth: You must toughen your nipples before breastfeeding.
Fact: Nipples don't need toughening up. It's important to address any latch or positioning issues instead of trying to prepare the nipples. Proper latch and positioning can prevent nipple pain.
Myth: You can't get pregnant while breastfeeding.
Fact: Breastfeeding may delay the return of menstruation and ovulation, but it's not a foolproof contraceptive method. It's possible to ovulate before having a period, so relying solely on breastfeeding for contraception might lead to an unexpected pregnancy.
